UK-based collection society PRS for Music on Tuesday (June 3) reported that it paid out GBP \u00a31.02 billion in royalties to songwriters, composers and publishers in 2024.<\/p>\n

The figure, which converts to $1.3 billion <\/b>based on the average annual exchange rate for 2024, is up 8.1%<\/b> from 2023 when royalty payouts reached<\/a> \u00a3943.6 million<\/b> ($1.2 million).<\/p>\n

PRS for Music reported revenue growth of 6.1% YoY<\/b><\/span> to \u00a31.15 billion<\/b> ($1.46 billion) in 2024, marking a significant deceleration from the 12.5%<\/b> increase recorded in 2023 when the organization first became \u201ca billion-pound society.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Digging deeper into PRS’ numbers, we can see that the society\u2019s online royalties grew 9% YoY<\/strong><\/span> in 2024 to \u00a3401.2 million<\/b> ($512m).<\/p>\n

Collections from the video games sector surged nearly 180% YoY<\/b> <\/span>after the organization secured a deal with Sony Playstation for its streaming service. PRS for Music described the deal as \u201cthe first of its kind in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n

International revenues at the end of 2024 jumped 79.6%<\/b> from 2015 levels to \u00a3351.4 million <\/b>($448.8m).<\/p>\n

The organization attributed the continued growth to \u201ca renewed commercial mindset and investment in data and technology infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andrea Czapary Martin <\/b>announced the figures at Tuesday\u2019s annual general meeting, where members also elected new council representatives.<\/p>\n

Singer-songwriter Cathy Dennis<\/b> joins the Writer Council as a member alongside Tom Gray, chair of the Ivors Academy, and composer Philip Pope.<\/p>\n

PRS for Music\u2019s Publisher Council added new members including Megan Hall<\/b>, Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs at Concord Music Publishing<\/b>; Nigel<\/b> Gilroy<\/b>, Global Head of Legal & Business Affairs at Novello and Company<\/b>; Daniel Lang<\/b>, Senior Vice President of Global Society Relations & Digital Rights at Warner Chappell Music<\/b>; and Richard Paine<\/b>, Director of Commercial Rights and Business Affairs at Faber<\/b> Music<\/b>.<\/p>\n
