The deepfake detection tool works on the same principle, but seeks to detect recognizable faces used without permission.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zVqQiBb0F-w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a> posted on Tuesday, YouTube said creators will be able to review flagged videos in the Content Detection tab of YouTube Studio and submit a request for removal if they believe the video is a deepfake, or otherwise violates YouTube\u2019s terms of service.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #1\" data-params=\"dfp_spu1\" id=\"dfp_spu1\"><\/div>      <\/div>      <\/span><\/p>\n<p>To be able to use the tool, creators will have to provide photo ID and a short video of themselves. Several days after signing up, creators should start seeing flagged videos in the Content Detection tab, where they will have options as to how to respond, including filing a removal request, filing a copyright infringement request, or taking no action.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, YouTube made it clear its primary purpose with the tool is to protect the reputation and commercial interests of creators on its platform. The tool will allow creators to \u201cprotect your viewers by keeping the audience from being misled about what you endorse and what you don\u2019t,\u201d YouTube said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a chance you may not see matches if altered or synthetic content with your face are barely or never uploaded to YouTube. This is completely normal and indicates that we haven&#8217;t detected unauthorized use of your visual likeness on the platform. And we hope that brings you peace of mind,\u201d YouTube said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;You will be able to send a removal request for review under YouTube&#8217;s privacy guidelines and protect your viewers by keeping your audience from being misled about what you endorse and what you don&#8217;t.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">YouTube<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>YouTube has not disclosed if or when it plans to expand the tool beyond creators on the platform. However, that\u2019s the expectation, given that YouTube <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/youtube-partners-with-creative-artists-agency-on-ai-deepfake-recognition-tools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">partnered<\/a> with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) last December, giving certain high-profile people the ability to \u201cprovide critical feedback to help us build our detection systems,\u201d YouTube said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The detection tool is one of a series of steps that YouTube has taken in recent years to mitigate the risks that come with generative AI. Last year, the platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/you-can-now-make-takedown-requests-for-ai-generated-youtube-videos-that-mimic-your-likeness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">changed its privacy policies<\/a> to allow members of the public to file removal requests on videos that imitate their voice or likeness.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #2\" data-params=\"dfp_spu2\" id=\"dfp_spu2\"><\/div>      <\/div>      <\/span><\/p>\n<p>YouTube also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/youtube-is-clamping-down-on-ai-generated-clones-of-superstars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">developed a mechanism<\/a> for rights holders to request takedowns of videos they believe \u201cmimic an artist\u2019s unique singing or rapping voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, YouTube and its parent company, <strong>Google<\/strong>, have been among the most active companies developing AI technology. Earlier this year, YouTube rolled out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/youtube-launches-free-ai-music-tool-for-creators-that-makes-instant-copyright-free-video-soundtracks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a new AI music tool<\/a> that can generate copyright-free soundtracks for videos. The company is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/youtube-tests-ai-music-host-feature-to-challenge-spotifys-ai-dj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">testing an AI music host feature<\/a> to rival <strong>Spotify<\/strong>\u2019s AI DJ.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/youtube-and-universal-music-group-partner-to-develop-ai-music-tools-complete-with-protections-for-artists-and-rightsholders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed a deal<\/a> with <strong>Universal Music Group<\/strong> in 2023 to develop AI tools, complete with protections for rights holders.
