She Is The Music<\/a> (SITM), a global nonprofit focused on gender equality and increasing the number of women working in the music industry, has named Laura Segura as Executive Director.<\/p>\n

Segura joins SITM after spending five years at MusiCares<\/b><\/a>, another nonprofit that provides crisis relief and need-based financial assistance for people in the music industry.<\/p>\n

At MusiCares, Segura led relief initiatives that distributed more than $51 million<\/b> to music professionals. She oversaw the organization\u2019s distribution of $35.7 million<\/b> in pandemic relief and another $16 million<\/b> in relief during the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area.<\/p>\n

Beyond relief efforts, Segura expanded MusiCares’ operating budget and updated internal systems. She helped establish the Humans of Hip Hop<\/b> grant program and launched the annual Wellness in Music research project.<\/p>\n

She also created The Day That Music Cares<\/b>, a volunteer program, and developed support specifically targeting women’s mental health and caregiving needs.<\/p>\n

Before MusiCares, Segura spent time at the Recording Academy<\/b> as Vice President of Membership & Industry Relations. There, she revised membership qualifications, reorganized chapter structures, and led the Diversity & Inclusion Task Force focused on creating opportunities for women.<\/p>\n

Pollstar<\/i> named her to its Women of Live<\/i><\/a> list this year and its Impact 50<\/i><\/a> in 2021. Billboard<\/i> has featured her multiple times in its Women in Music: Top Executives <\/i>rankings. She currently sits on the housing board for the Entertainment Community Fund.<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

At SITM, Segura will oversee the organization\u2019s global programs and partnerships. The organization counts Grammy-winning artist Alicia<\/b> Keys<\/b>, Universal Music Publishing Group<\/b> Chairman and CEO Jody<\/b> Gerson<\/b>, Grammy-winning engineer Ann<\/b> Mincieli<\/b>, and Sam Kirby Yoh <\/b>(Partner & Co-Head of Global Music, UTA), among its co-founders.<\/p>\n

SITM maintains a global database<\/a> of women music creators and runs programs connecting emerging professionals with established industry figures.<\/p>\n

The organization says Segura will oversee and expand SITM\u2019s core initiatives including its all-women songwriting camps, global creator database, mentorship cohorts, research and advocacy work, and community partnerships across labels, publishers, studios, management companies, DSPs and educational institutions.<\/p>\n

Segura will also oversee day-to-day operations and serve as a key spokesperson and advocate for SITM\u2019s mission globally.<\/p>\n
