Murakoze Cyane, Asante Sana, Siyabonga, Amesegenalew, Gracias, Obrigado, Merci Beaucoup.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>YouTube<\/strong> had not commented on the departure at the time of writing. His title subsequently evolved to Director of Black Music &amp; Culture.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of his appointment, <strong>Lyor Cohen<\/strong>, YouTube&#8217;s Global Head of Music, said: &#8220;Tuma brings a deep knowledge of the Music Industry with many years of experience at BET, MTV, REVOLT and most recently, Spotify.<\/p>\n<p>His experience will be invaluable to the music journey we are on at YouTube, connecting artists and fans across the globe, and I am thrilled to welcome his voice to our collective efforts.&#8221;<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #1\" data-params=\"dfp_spu1\" id=\"dfp_spu1\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p>Basa was born in <strong>Zaire<\/strong> (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) to a Rwandan family, grew up in <strong>Iowa<\/strong> after his father enrolled in a graduate studies program at the University of Iowa, and later relocated to <strong>Zimbabwe<\/strong> as a teenager.<\/p>\n<p>He spent the early part of his executive career accumulating roles across television and digital media, including four years at <strong>BET<\/strong>, ten years at <strong>MTV<\/strong> \u2014 where he created over <strong>2,500<\/strong> hours of unique music playlists \u2014 and three years as VP of Music Programming at <strong>REVOLT TV<\/strong>, the hip-hop broadcaster founded by <strong>Sean &#8216;Diddy&#8217; Combs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>2015<\/strong>, Basa joined <strong>Spotify<\/strong> as Global Programming Head of Hip-Hop, where he became closely associated with the platform&#8217;s <em>RapCaviar<\/em> playlist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotifys-rapcaviar-chief-tuma-basa-exits-company-a-day-after-public-listing\/\">Under his stewardship<\/a>, <em>RapCaviar<\/em> grew to over <strong>9 million<\/strong> followers and expanded into live events in a partnership with <strong>Live Nation<\/strong>.
