The record pulled in over<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/btspotifycentre\/status\/2035722113802498395\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>\u00a0110 million<\/b>\u00a0streams<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<b>Spotify<\/b>\u00a0in its first 24 hours, breaking the record for the most-streamed K-pop album in Spotify history and the most-streamed album in a single day this year, Spotify\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWJeHeeir1S\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0on social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">BigHit said Arirang also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/media-telecom\/bts-comeback-album-arirang-sells-398-million-copies-first-day-2026-03-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sold <b>3.98 million<\/b><\/a>\u00a0copies on its first day of release, citing local album sales tracker <b>Hanteo<\/b> <b>Chart<\/b>. The figure surpasses BTS\u2019s previous first-week record of <strong>3.37 million<\/strong> copies set by Map of the Soul: 7 in February 2020 \u2014 in a single day rather than a full week.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cBTS and other prominent music groups invest extensive resources into planning and executing the most effective release of albums, songs, lyrics, and associated material as possible, so as to have the greatest possible impact on potential listeners and the market when the media are released.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BigHit Music&#8217;s ex parte application<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">The label is now targeting an X account that operated under the display name <b>BTS ARIRANG LEAK<\/b> and username <b>@jwngkcck<\/b>. The account allegedly distributed unreleased songs, lyrics, concept art, and album cover images in early March 2026, according to the filing, which you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/files\/2026\/04\/Big-Hit-Ex-Parte.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The account\u2019s biography read: \u201cfan account | not violated any rules, no copyright, following all @x\u2019s rules,\u201d according to the filing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">BigHit said the leak violated its statutory and legal interests, causing damage, including by undermining its efforts to promote BTS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cBTS and other prominent music groups invest extensive resources into planning and executing the most effective release of albums, songs, lyrics, and associated material as possible, so as to have the greatest possible impact on potential listeners and the market when the media are released,\u201d BigHit\u2019s lawyers wrote.<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #1\" data-params=\"dfp_spu1\" id=\"dfp_spu1\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cUnauthorized leaks severely undermine these efforts, destroying the excitement and anticipation for hearing never-before-released songs and causing substantial economic and reputational harm in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As part of the album launch campaign, BigHit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/bts-strike-netflix-deal-to-livestream-comeback-concert-followed-by-documentary-about-making-of-new-album\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">struck a deal<\/a> with <b>Netflix<\/b> in February to exclusively stream BTS\u2019s comeback concert where they performed songs from <i>ARIRANG.<\/i> TikTok also <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/tiktok-unveils-the-bts-arirang-in-app-experience?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiled<\/a> a BTS ARIRANG In-App Experience during the release day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">BigHit says it has since reported the copyright violation to X, and the account\u2019s posts have been deleted. Its username was also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jwngkcck\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">changed<\/a>, the filing said.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cUnauthorized leaks severely undermine these efforts, destroying the excitement and anticipation for hearing never-before-released songs and causing substantial economic and reputational harm in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BigHit Music&#8217;s ex parte application<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">The label is now seeking to hold the person responsible accountable and to recover damages through legal proceedings in South Korea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">BigHit said it \u201ccannot do so unless it identifies the Account\u2019s user(s).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIf X was subject to the jurisdiction of South Korean courts, Applicant would be able to obtain the requested information through regular discovery proceedings in South Korea. However, X is a Nevada corporation with its principal office located in Bastrop, Texas, and that South Korean courts thus do not have jurisdiction over X, which is why Applicant cannot seek discovery from X in the lawsuit proceeding in South Korea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a separate declaration filed by HYBE\u2019s Head of Global Legal Affairs Team, <b>Claire<\/b> <b>Shin<\/b>, BigHit cited the urgency of its request as South Korean telecommunications companies purge user data after 90 days.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt is my understanding that South Korean telecommunication companies only store identifying user data for ninety days, before it is purged under company policy. Thus there is an urgent need to promptly identify information from x.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Claire<\/b> <b>Shin<\/b>, BigHit Music<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt is my understanding that South Korean telecommunication companies only store identifying user data for ninety days, before it is purged under company policy. Thus there is an urgent need to promptly identify information (including the user(s)&#8217; phone number(s)) from X, so that Applicant may use the information to identify the user(s) through further efforts in South Korea, as necessary,\u201d Shin wrote in a separate filing (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/files\/2026\/04\/1-2.pdf\">read here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The subpoena, if approved, would require X to produce all access logs of the account and the time zone associated with the timestamps from January 1, 2026, through the date X responds to the subpoena, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/files\/2026\/04\/1-1-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> Exhibit A of the application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #2\" data-params=\"dfp_spu2\" id=\"dfp_spu2\"><\/div>      <\/div>      <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">X would also be required to submit any contact information linked to the account\u2019s credit card, bank account or other electronic commerce details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This is not the first time HYBE has deployed this approach. The company has previously used the same 28 U.S.C. \u00a7 1782 statute to reveal the identity of an anonymous X account, <b>@webelieveinbots<\/b>, which had posted over <b>3,000<\/b> tweets since March 2025 containing allegedly defamatory statements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The account falsely accused <b>HYBE<\/b>\/<b>BELIFT<\/b> <b>LAB<\/b> of pressuring artists to participate in political events, mistreating artists and executives, deleting evidence, and covering up abuse, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cand.454877\/gov.uscourts.cand.454877.1.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filing<\/a> in August last year. The <i>ex parte <\/i>application was granted in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Elsewhere at HYBE, the company on April 9 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/bts-world-tour-arirang-hybe-moves-to-crack-down-on-bootleg-merch-ahead-of-us-dates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filed complaints<\/a> in the US to crack down on bootleggers selling counterfeit BTS merch ahead of their performances at <b>Raymond James Stadium<\/b> in Tampa on <b>April 25, 26, and 28<\/b> \u2014 the opening dates of the group\u2019s US tour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The bootleggers\u2019 identities are not yet known.
