It excludes Spotify, YouTube, Apple, Meta, and Amazon Music. South Korean entertainment giant HYBE, for example,\u00a0<a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/hybe-expands-into-india-opening-fifth-global-hq-in-mumbai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expanded<\/a>\u00a0into India in September 2025, opening its fifth global headquarters in Mumbai, while Reservoir\u00a0<a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/reservoir-expands-indian-presence-with-new-subsidiary-popindia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> a new Indian subsidiary, PopIndia, last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The major music companies also continue to deepen their presence in the market. <span class=\"s1\">Universal Music<\/span> India <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/universal-music-buys-30-stake-in-indias-excel-entertainment-valuing-bollywood-production-house-at-267m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">acquired<\/span><\/a> a 30% stake in Bollywood production house Excel Entertainment in January, in a deal that valued the company at approximately $267 million, and in March <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/in-latest-move-in-india-universal-music-forms-exclusive-partnership-with-albuquerque-records-the-new-label-from-singer-and-composer-anirudh-ravichander\/\"><span class=\"s1\">formed<\/span><\/a> an exclusive partnership with Albuquerque Records, the new label from Indian singer and composer Anirudh Ravichander. <span class=\"s1\">Warner Music<\/span> India, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/warner-music-india-launches-headed-by-ex-sony-exec-jay-mehta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">launched<\/span><\/a> in 2020, has continued to expand through deals including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/warner-music-strikes-global-distribution-deal-with-ultra-music-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">global distribution partnership<\/span><\/a> with Ultra Music India.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">WMG also <a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/warners-divo-music-makes-play-for-independent-artists-in-india-via-new-label-loopd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">holds<\/a>\u00a0a majority stake in\u00a0<b>Divo<\/b>, a Southern India-based company, and\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/darshan-raval-warner-acquires-e-positive-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acquired<\/a>\u00a0artist management firm<b>\u00a0E-Positive<\/b>. Warner Music India has also\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/warner-acquires-minority-stake-in-india-based-live-entertainment-and-ticketing-platform-skillbox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invested<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<b>SkillBox<\/b>, a live entertainment platform.<\/p>\n<p>The country <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/india-added-nearly-4m-paid-music-streaming-subscriptions-in-2025-taking-its-total-to-14-4m-according-to-new-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">added<\/a> nearly 4 million paid music streaming subscriptions in 2025, taking its total to <strong>14.4 million,<\/strong> according to a joint report from EY and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) \u2014 though that still represented only around 8% of the 178 million people who streamed music in the country that year.<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #2\" data-params=\"dfp_spu2\" id=\"dfp_spu2\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p>The Zee Music Company deal marks the latest in a series of global expansion moves for EMPIRE, the San Francisco-headquartered independent label, distributor, and publisher founded by Ghazi in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The company has worked with artists including Kendrick Lamar, Bebe Rexha, Fireboy DML, Shaboozey, Asake, and Anderson .Paak.<\/p>\n<p>In July, EMPIRE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/empire-launches-in-nordic-region-hires-iman-hazheer-to-lead-initiatives-across-sweden-denmark-norway-finland-and-iceland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> in the Nordic region with the appointment of former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/spotify\/\">Spotify<\/a> editor Iman Hazheer as Territory Manager across Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, EMPIRE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/empire-strikes-deal-with-baramey-production-to-break-cambodian-artists-globally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">struck<\/a> a multi-year deal with Cambodian music company Baramey Production, and in October 2024 it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/empire-hires-jeffrey-yoo-to-lead-expansion-in-asia-first-signing-named-as-korean-superstar-g-dragon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appointed<\/a> Jeffrey Yoo as SVP, East Asia, simultaneously signing Korean superstar G-Dragon as its first artist in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/empire-launches-empire-africa-with-three-executive-hires12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> EMPIRE Africa in 2022, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, following the earlier establishment of a division focused on West Asia, North Africa, and its diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>EMPIRE&#8217;s South Asia push has been led by Faryal Khan-Thompson, VP of Global Market Strategy &amp; Development.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I see this partnership with EMPIRE as a strategic step toward expanding Zee Music Company&#8217;s global footprint.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sujal Parekh, Zee Music\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Commenting on the deal, <strong>Sujal Parekh, <\/strong>Chief Business Officer at Zee Music Co., said: &#8220;Indian music today has unprecedented global potential, fueled by streaming adoption, the strength of India&#8217;s cultural storytelling, and the growing demand for diverse repertoire worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I see this partnership with EMPIRE as a strategic step toward expanding Zee Music Company&#8217;s global footprint.
