{"id":255818,"date":"2026-04-27T12:17:28","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T11:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/?p=255818"},"modified":"2026-04-27T12:17:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T11:17:36","slug":"deezer-revenues-hit-154m-in-q1-down-1-6-yoy-but-direct-subscribers-grew-to-5-7m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/deezer-revenues-hit-154m-in-q1-down-1-6-yoy-but-direct-subscribers-grew-to-5-7m\/","title":{"rendered":"Deezer revenues hit $154M in Q1, down 1.6% YoY, but direct subscribers grew to 5.7m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">France-headquartered music streaming service Deezer has published its Q1 2026 results, covering the three months ended March 31.<\/p>\n<p>Deezer reports its subscriber base in two categories:\u00a0<strong>\u2018Direct\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0subscribers, who sign up and pay for the service themselves, and\u00a0<strong>\u2018Partnerships\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0subscribers, who access Deezer through third-party bundles \u2014 typically with telcos such as\u00a0<strong>Orange<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Bouygues<\/strong>, or through commercial tie-ups like its deal with German broadcaster\u00a0<strong>RTL+<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Total <em>Direct<\/em> subscribers across France and the rest of the world grew<strong> 9% YoY<\/strong> to <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>5.7 million<\/strong><\/span> in Q1 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The platform&#8217;s Direct subscriber base in its home market of France, meanwhile, grew <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>9.1% YoY<\/strong> <\/span>to <b>3.8 million<\/b>, driven, according to the platform, &#8220;by a well-balanced combination of strong brand positioning, targeted promotional offers and sustained marketing investments&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Direct subscribers in the rest of the world increased by <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">8.7% YoY<\/span> <\/strong>to<b> 1.9 million<\/b>, reflecting &#8220;solid organic traction and selected profitable marketing investments in key markets&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">However, the platform&#8217;s <em>total<\/em> subscribers globally across both Partnerships and Direct fell <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>5.1%<\/b> <b>YoY<\/b><\/span> to <b>8.9 million<\/b> in Q1, as subs from its Partnerships segment plunged<b><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> 23% YoY<\/span> <\/b>to <b>3.2 million. <\/b>Deezer attributed the decline in the number of Partnership subscribers to what it described as the &#8220;expected run-off&#8221; Overall, we remain firmly on track to deliver our full-year guidance, with positive adjusted EBITDA and Free Cash Flow, while maintaining revenue broadly in line with 2025 levels.\u201d<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #2\" data-params=\"dfp_spu2\" id=\"dfp_spu2\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p class=\"p1\">The quarterly figures follow a landmark 2025 for Deezer when the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/deezer-posts-first-ever-annual-profit-despite-total-subscriber-base-declining-in-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> its first-ever annual net profit of<span style=\"color: #339966;\"> <b>\u20ac8.5 million<\/b><\/span>, reversing the <b>\u20ac26 million<\/b> loss it posted in 2024. That turnaround came even as Deezer\u2019s revenue fell <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>1.4% YoY<\/b><\/span>, also due to a<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> <b>12.1% YoY<\/b><\/span> drop in revenue in the Partnerships segment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In Q1 2026, Deezer said it made progress in the \u201crepositioning\u201d of its Partnerships segment, \u00a0the development of new AI-driven revenue streams, and its ongoing product innovation to improve user experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Also during the quarter, Deezer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/deezer-launches-revamped-deezer-for-business-platform-bringing-partnerships-advertising-ai-detection-licensing-and-more-under-one-roof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">renewed<\/a> its partnership with <strong>Sonos<\/strong> <strong>Radio<\/strong>, a deal that the streaming platform says drives \u201ctens of millions of monthly listening hours across millions of households globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">In February, Deezer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/deezer-launches-flow-tuner-to-give-users-more-control-over-algorithmic-playlists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> &#8216;<b>Flow Tuner,\u2019\u00a0<\/b>an update to its flagship Flow product that now lets users activate or deactivate specific genres and subgenres. The company explained that Flow Tuner adjusts recommendations in real time instead of relying on likes, dislikes or skips.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In March, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/deezer-licenses-ai-music-detection-technology-to-hungarian-rights-organization-eji\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">struck a deal<\/a> with Hungary-based music rights organization, the <b>Bureau for the Protection of Performers\u2019 Rights<\/b> (EJI), to license its AI detection technology. The development came after Deezer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/60000-ai-tracks-hit-deezer-daily-as-platform-moves-to-license-detection-tech-to-wider-music-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a>\u00a0in January that it was planning to license its AI-detection tech to the wider music industry and made it available via its revamped\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/deezer-launches-revamped-deezer-for-business-platform-bringing-partnerships-advertising-ai-detection-licensing-and-more-under-one-roof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deezer for Business unit<\/a>\u00a0earlier in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Deezer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/75000-ai-generated-tracks-now-flood-deezer-daily-representing-44-of-all-new-music-uploaded-to-the-platform-says-streamer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a> last week that its proprietary detection tool to tag AI-generated content across its catalog has detected nearly <b>75,000<\/b> synthetic tracks uploaded to the company\u2019s platform every day. That translates to over <b>2 million<\/b>\u00a0AI tracks hitting the platform each month, and it means fully AI-generated music now accounts for more than\u00a0<b>44%<\/b>\u00a0of all new tracks delivered to Deezer daily, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For fiscal year 2026, Deezer said it aims to accelerate its direct subscriber growth through continued brand differentiation, leverage its \u201cpartnerships DNA\u201d to continue to expand distribution and build a new profitable B2B segment through white-labeling business models, and to continue to lead on AI through transparency while monetizing its detection technology and exploring AI products to benefit real artists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Deezer expects to book positive adjusted EBITDA and positive free cash flow for FY 2026.
